At Redlands Gentle Dental Care, we offer porcelain and composite veneers. They work as a long-term way to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Dental veneers are a great way to brighten a lack-lustre smile. However, they can only be applied to the teeth visible when you smile. You have two options with veneers:
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth. This treatment takes two appointments and requires you to wear temporary veneers between appointments. Porcelain veneers are also stain resistant. With proper treatment, they will last longer than composite veneers.
Composite veneers are a fast, more cost-efficient option. They require less tooth structure to be removed. We install them completely in only one appointment. Composite veneers are made of material similar to fillings. They are placed on the tooth and shaped to mimic the look and feel of your natural teeth.
Often, veneers are installed in conjunction with teeth whitening. For example, you may have one or two teeth that may need veneers but you still want to whiten your other teeth. At Redlands Gentle Dental Care we can whiten your teeth with ZOOM! We then place the veneers on those teeth you feel would benefit more from dental veneers.
How do porcelain veneers actually work?
Porcelain veneers are tailor made, thin shells of porcelain material that are bonded to the front side of your teeth. Veneers are a great option for patients wanting to camouflage chips, cracks, discolouration or even gasps in their teeth.
Porcelain veneers are securely bonded to your teeth via dental grade cement to ensure they are strong and durable. Veneers also don’t need much preparation of your natural teeth as only a slight amount of your tooth enamel needs to be taken off. This ensures your veneers fit seamlessly into your natural smile.
After the team at Redlands Gentle Dental Care have prepared your teeth, they will design individual tooth moulds to construct your veneers. This ensures your veneers will be in perfect alignment with your gum line and are the same shape, size length and colour.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin sheet of tooth coloured material (either porcelain or composite resin) that help cover stained or damaged teeth. They are used as an alternative to crowns as they are far less invasive and require less preparation of the tooth. They provide a fast, cost effective way of achieving a Hollywood smile.
How much do dental veneers cost?
Veneer prices are determined on a case by case basis depending on the patient and the number of veneers needed. Porcelain veneers will cost more than composite veneers, as they are custom made with high quality porcelain to fit the individual. They are also stain resistant.
We encourage you to contact Redlands Gentle Dental Care to arrange an appointment to get an exact cost.
What problems do dental veneers fix?
They help cover cracked and damaged teeth by covering them in a thin cap made of porcelain or a thin resin layered over the damaged tooth. They can also be used to cover stained or discoloured teeth. Unfortunately, both composite and porcelain veneers are purely cosmetic. They will not help repair the function or strength of any damaged teeth.
How long do dental veneers last?
Veneers can last between 7-10 years if looked after. Although porcelain veneers are more stain resistant than composite veneers we still recommend to avoid stain-causing foods, beverages and smoking. The tar from smoking can leave a sticky layer on your veneers which will make them more prone to staining.
Porcelain or Composite Veneers?
At Redlands Gentle Dental Care, both composite and porcelain veneers are matched to the shade and colour of your tooth for a seamless look. Composite veneers are cheaper and are made of a resin similar to that used in fillings. Composite resin veneers are made of a tooth coloured filling and require less preparation work by the dentist.
Porcelain veneers are better at mimicking real teeth and are far more stain resistant than composite veneers. Gum tissue tolerates porcelain better as well. They last longer than composite veneers but take longer to install as they require multiple appointments.
Can porcelain veneers be whitened?
One of the main reasons our patients request veneers at both our Queensland practices is their ability to resist stains. This means your veneers wont change colour when you consume highly pigmented foods, if they experience a small injury or if you have had them for a long time.
Unfortunately, as porcelain veneers are non-porous this means that traditional whitening chemicals cannot whiten them.
While you can’t chemically whiten the appearance of your veneers, if they are a little dull or have discoloured, you can refresh them. Six monthly professional cleanings from us can help remove the surface stains and brighten the colour of your veneers.
