There are plenty of ways you can whiten your teeth. From watching what you eat to over-the-counter products and treatments from the dentist.
But which one is the most effective?
And where do you start to look?
What you should keep in mind is everyone’s teeth are different—not just in appearance but in health. So, while one person’s teeth are stained because they have a particular proclivity for coffee, another person’s teeth may be stained because of trauma or decay.
For these two people treatment is very different. The person who enjoys coffee can have teeth whitening treatment…provided they can abstain from coffee for a few weeks to achieve the best results.
While the person who has decay does not need teeth whitening treatment, for the very simple reason that their problem is health-related. Teeth whitening treatments work on the enamel, or surface of teeth. If the problem is inside the tooth as it were, then cleaning enamel will not solve the problem.
Which way is best to whiten your teeth?
While medical marketing guidelines prohibit us from commenting on the efficacy of over-the-counter products we can say this: over-the-counter teeth whitening products cannot assess your oral health and determine the best form of treatment for you.
In fact, the only thing an over-the-counter teeth whitening product can do is provide you with generic trays and the necessary gels to whiten you teeth.
On a quick note: teeth whitening strips don’t so much whiten your teeth as dehydrate your teeth. So you’ll have the appearance of whitened teeth—but only for a short period of time.
Visit Redlands Gentle Dental Care
By visiting a dentist for your teeth whitening needs you can rest assured we will provide you with the treatment which will help you.
If your teeth are stained because of food or drink then we offer ZOOM! Teeth whitening. This treatment can whiten your teeth up to ten shades: in less than 90 minutes!
If, however, your teeth are stained because of decay or trauma one of our friendly dentists can determine the best treatment for you. You may only need a porcelain veneer to cover the trauma. Or if the issue is decay then you may require either a filling or root canal therapy. This will however depend on the severity of the decay.
Everyone’s oral health is different
Because no two people have the same two mouths, there is little point in a one-size-fits-all approach. Which is why it’s beneficial for you to visit the dentist.
By assessing your health and determining what’s best for your situation, we can provide you with the most suitable treatment option. And after treatment we can educate you on the best way to maintain your healthy looking white smile for longer.
