If you have considered straightening your teeth with braces, but have been put off by the thought of a mouthful of metal—don’t be!
Orthodontics is a highly specialised branch of dentistry, concerned with straightening crooked or misaligned teeth. Thanks to advances in the technology, you no longer have to be embarrassed by metal brackets and wires. Nowadays, orthodontic treatment options now offer a less noticeable, more comfortable and more efficient experience.
Why might you need Orthodontic treatment?
Crooked and crowded teeth are difficult to clean and maintain. This can result in decay, gum disease and lead to tooth loss. Other problems crooked teeth can contribute to include:
- Abnormal wear of tooth surfaces
- Inefficient chewing function
- Misalignment of the jaw joints
- Excessive stress on gum disease tissue and the bone that supports the teeth
Orthodontic options at Redlands Gentle Dental Care
At our two practices in Victoria Point and Capalaba, we offer metal braces and ceramic braces. These two orthodontic options are suitable for patients from the age of 7 upwards.
Metal Braces
These braces are the most commonly used form of orthodontics. The brackets are smaller than they used to be, meaning there is less of the “brace-face” look often associated with this treatment.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are more commonly known as clear braces or tooth-coloured braces. This is because there are made from a clear ceramic material or sapphire crystals. This orthodontic treatment is a popular treatment for adults because they are a much more discreet option.
Treatment time
The complexity of your case will determine the treatment length. On average treatment can take anywhere from 18-24 months. When you visit one of our family-friendly dental practices in either Victoria Point or Capalaba, our resident orthodontist can prescribe the best treatment for you.
